Clinical Supervision for Michigan's LLCs

Michigan's Limited Licensed Counselors are required to have 3,000 hours of supervised practice and 100 hours of direct clinical supervision before they are eligible to receive full licensure.

If you have a limited license and are looking for a clinical supervisor for the first time or are looking for someone new to work with, MCTI can help. Beginning in 2026, you will be able to work alongside Sara Schwartz, MBA, MA, LPC, NCC, CAADC, NPT-C as you complete your hours...whether you're starting fresh or continuing where you left off.

Sara Schwartz, MBA, MA, LPC, NCC, CAADC, NPT-C graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Antioch University in 2021. She was a student member of Chi Sigma Iota, taking on the Addictions Chair of the Alpha Nu Epsilon chapter's executive board. She has continued to be affiliated with this counseling honors society as a current CSI member-at-large. She also received the Donald D. Davis scholarship while attending the university, recognized for excellence in community service.

Since that time, Sara has worked in both private practice and community mental health settings. Her CMH experience has been working with severe mental illness and co-occurring disorders, treating children, adolescents, and adults as a youth homebased therapist and clinical member of an adult assertive community treatment team.

Sara started her practice, 3Cs Counseling Center, in 2022 where she sees individuals ages 6+ and couples. As a private practice clinician, she has also partnered with Sollars and Associates, Great Lakes Psychology Group, and Grow Therapy.

Sara passed the NCE in 2021 and the AADC in 2023. Additionally, she completed a certification in neuro-psychotherapy in 2024, and regularly integrates all of these skills into her practice. In 2026, she will become a MI LPC Clinical Supervisor, able to share her knowledge, experience and insight with other counselors.

Sara has been recognized several times in Marquis Who's Who in America, both as a counselor and for her media arts contributions. She has been a mental health expert guest speaker on many podcast episodes and currently acts as a mental health and substance use disorder expert in litigation cases. In addition to her CSI membership, she is an active member of the American Counseling Association, Michigan Board of Addiction Professionals, Michigan Counselors Association, Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association, and the International Association of Professional Writers and Editors.

Clinical supervision has two basic goals: the development of the clinical skills of the supervisee and the protection of the client. While the focus will seem to be primarily on your professional development, the end result is a positive client experience.

Sara's planned supervision approach will draw from Developmental Model of Supervision, which is an approach that emphasizes the progressive stages of growth and competence that counselors experience over time and tailors supervision strategies to ever-evolving needs and skills.

At times, she will also integrate Bernard and Goodyear’s Discrimination Model, which is designed to help supervisors provide support and instruction to supervisees while ensuring the welfare of clients and the counseling profession. The model is based on three supervisory roles: teacher, counselor, and consultant, and three areas of focus: intervention, conceptualization, and personalization.
